Peter Mancell - Chairman

Peter Mancell holds a Science Degree majoring in Applied Mathematics and has completed the Diploma of Financial Planning and the Diploma of Life Insurance. Based in Burnie, Peter operates a multi-discipline financial services business, with 16 staff including 8 professionals.

Peter also played Sheffield Shield Cricket for Tasmania between 1981 - 83, coached the Burnie District Cricket Club, played in two NWTCA premierships and captained the merged Burnie-Yeoman Cricket Club in their inaugural season. He plays golf and has also had significant junior sporting experience with soccer, rugby league, squash and swimming.  Peter is involved in medical research charity work in addition to acting as a director of Advance Burnie and Burnie Sports & Events where he chairs the board.

Andrew Wardlaw

Andrew Wardlaw joined the Burnie City Council as Director Corporate and Business Services in August 2009.  He entered local government in 1993 when he was appointed Senior Finance Officer at King Island, after a twelve-year career with Westpac. 

Andrew also worked in a similar role at the Circular Head Council before being appointed Manager Finance and Administration at the West Coast Council in 1999 and was the General Manager at West Coast between 2000 and 2003 and General Manager on King Island from 2003 to 2009.

Andrew has an Advanced Diploma in Business (Accounting) and is a member of the Local Government Managers Association and an associate member of the National Institute of Accountants and is currently on the LGMA State and National Board. 

In 2006 Andrew was the winner of the LGMA (Tasmania) - KPMG Open Category for Management Excellence.

He was born at St Marys and spent his formative years in the West Tamar region and is married to his wife Kim and has two teenage age children Jessika and Aaryn.  He is an avid sports lover and particularly enjoys playing golf and watching Australian Rules football and cricket.

Andrew has been the President of the King Island Racing Club, King Island Cricket Association and Currie Football Club.  He has also held the position of Secretary or Treasurer of Lions Club of King Island, Tamar Cats Football Club, Circular Head Umpires Association and Circular Head Gymnastics Club. Along with Burnie Sports & Events, Andrew is also Director/Corporate Secretary of Burnie Airport Corporation and Tas Communications Pty Ltd.

Melanie Bond

Melanie is currently a Tourism & Hospitality Teacher / Workplace Trainer & Assessor for The Skills Institute (formally known as Drysdale House). Her qualifications include Diploma of Hospitality Management and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.

Graeme Thorp

Graeme is a well known and respected business owner and sportsman with 37 years as a Burnie Sports Store owner/manager. He is a Life Member (1970) of the Burnie Football Club and played 260 senior games with his first senior game in 1961. He won two Best and Fairest medals, played two State games and 13 NWFU Representative games.

Graeme is a long serving Burnie Surf Club member and won a bronze medal on ‘the board’ in 1962 Australian Championships. He stroked a boat to seven state titles between 1963-69 and was a State representative boat – board and ski. Graeme spend 10 years as Burnie Surf Club committeeman and Treasurer. Graeme also served on the Burnie Ten Committee for 8 years.
