Wrap-Up of CAT Underground Mining New Years Day Carnival
Another Christmas Carnival series has come and gone but the talk of their future continues. With a review due in a few months of all the carnivals, we await its observations and recommendations.
The 2012 CAT Underground Mining New Years Day Carnival enjoyed its best day in probably 10 years with over 4000 people in attendance, sensational weather and a dose of enthusiasm from the Nu-Gen Carnival which attracted over 100 young athletes aged between 10 and 16.
The Burnie Athletic Club members deserve recognition for the work they do to ensure that this carnival puts its best foot forward each year. It is easy to sit back and take pot shots, it is another thing again to put your shoulder to the wheel and help advance the cause. This carnival has just celebrated its 125th anniversary and hopefully with everyone working together with an open mind there are still plenty of good years ahead.
BSE and the BAC thank the wide range of sponsors that make this carnival possible and of course we are always looking for more sponsors to enable us to continually improve. If you are interested do not hesitate to contact BSE Sponsorship Manager; Martyn Fishwick at email mfishwick@burniesportsandevents.com.au

Cradle Coast Rally Challenge – Feb 25th & 26th
Got a fancy for classic and modern cars, similar to those entered in Targa? On the 25th and 26th February the Cradle Coast Rally Challenge cars will start their engines in the car park below Columnar Court (on the eastern end of the waterfront) at 5-45pm and leave for Wivenhoe where the first stage will commence at 6-00pm.
These cars are something to behold and event organiser Tony Wright is excited at the prospect of this challenge becoming an integral part of the ‘Australian Rally Calendar’.
There is no charge to be at the start of the race and spectators are encouraged to view the cars through the stages. More details will be provided closer to the event so watch out for the details in ‘The Advocate’.
A number of the rally cars will be on display at the City Link Sidewalk Sell-Out earlier in the day
Sidewalk Sell-Out on February 25th
The annual City Link Sidewalk Sell-Out is only a few weeks away – Saturday 25th February, coinciding with a cruise ship visit – Volendam (which should have over 2000 passengers).
This year there will be Line Dancing and Rock & Roll dancing exhibitions, face painting for the children together with mini cars and a bouncy castle.
It’s a great sight to see the local businesses bringing their goods into the middle of Wilson Street. If your business is keen to book a space and take advantage of the avalanche of people in Burnie on this day then you better contact Debbie King on 64312451 as spaces are obviously limited
