Aussie Twenty20 Bash – Australia Day 2012
Burnie Sports and Events today announced a new event for 2012.
The Aussie Bash Twenty20 cricket matches will be held at West Park Oval on Australia Day, 26 January 2012.
The City will be pitted against the country in two exciting games sure to spur on the rivalry between those from the bigger centres and those who play their cricket with country teams.
Burnie Sports and Events CEO, Brett Whiteley said, “Australia Day in Burnie has been a little quiet of recent times and our feedback has been that an event such as this will be appreciated and an attractive entertainment option.
“The day will commence at 2pm with an ‘Over 40’s’ invitation game drawing on players from along the North-West Coast. This will be followed by a further match at 5:30pm featuring a composite Burnie-Yeoman/Wynyard team from Cricket North West up against a representative side from the Burnie Cricket League.
“The latter match is a fair-dinkum game of A Grade Twenty20 cricket with all players expected to take the match very seriously.
“In speaking with those who have expressed interest in an event such as this, we can be sure that there will be keen competition to get into the side and even keener competition to win.”
Burnie Cricket League President Anthony Haneveer said the concept was an exciting one, bringing together some of the Coast’s top cricketers in the shorter form of the game.
“Many of our players have come from Coastal cricket and vice-versa, and it will be a great opportunity to see them go head to head.
“Twenty20 can go either way, but we have got lots experience and talent to draw on and I’m sure both games will be fought hard.”
Children under the age of 16 will be able to enter the game for free and there will be a flat entry fee of $5 for all adults. There will be no vehicle access to the ground. Food stalls and an outside bar (the same as for the Ryobi One Day game) will be in operation.
